How broke is Thunder Bay?
Well, these photos show examples of what is considered an acceptable sidewalk in Thunder Bay. The city replaced the sewer and water line on the section of Bay Street between Secord and Crown Streets.
The contract included new concrete curbing, a new sidewalks. I thought that all the sidewalks would be replaced. Not so.
The city representative visually reviewed the existing sidewalk and marked the sections that were to be removed and replaced.
These sections, were deemed acceptable and will remain. When asked why this is, my neighbour was told that there is no more money for Bay Street. The city has blown its wad. No lead pipe replacement. No new sidewalks.
The residents of Bay Street pay taxes. The homes on this street have been paying taxes for seventy years or longer. Surely, by now, they have paid for new sidewalks several times over. Why is there no money now?
Perhaps if Katherine Dugmore was asking for the money or a pair of RIM/hockey millionaires were asking for the money, then I am sure there would be money available. Evidently, City Administration does not believe that the Thunder Bay people actually live in needs to be Renewed as well.
