Fact. If the street is straight, then the curb and gutter on one side of the street should be a mirror image of the other. If they are not, as is the case here, and there is no reason to account for the difference, which there does not appear to be, then someone did not do their job. Crappy work. Expensive, crappy work to be exact.
I believe the City’s Crown Jewel and premier tourist destination should have higher construction standards that what I am seeing. It is all very sad.
So lets review, the southbound lane curb and gutter and the northbound lane curb and gutter have different crest points on the same hill. Yes…it appears to be possible.
Why does this matter, you ask? Well, its not the end of the world and it does not make the street unsafe. Still, the fact that this situation exists at all says a lot about the management/oversight of that project. Or maybe, lack of management/oversight of that project.
What can this mean?
- the contractor had no idea what he/she was doing
- the contractor knew what he/she was doing but did not care because nobody was checking
- the project was built completely by eye without the benefit of plans. Nobody bothered to check any of the work.
- all of the above
Sloppy work but then it appears that the City of Thunder Bay does not care. Blame it on the weather or the rushed construction schedule no doubt.
Once again I have to wonder if the part of construction that we can see is this sloppy, then what can be said about all that we cannot see? The buried stuff?
