Thunder Bay Public Library takes steps to ‘decolonize’ itselfChief librarian says ‘racism exists’ at the TBPL
The Thunder Bay Public Library says it has taken action that demonstrates that “decolonization” of the library is “a conscious act and not a metaphor.”
In the spring of 2017, in the wake of the findings of the national Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Chief Librarian John Pateman first announced TBPL would implement measures to decolonize library operations and services.
On Tuesday, in response to what it described as a number of recent tragic and traumatic events in the community, the library made a followup announcement reaffirming its commitment to anti-racism and decolonization.
“We stand in solidarity with the Indigenous people of Thunder Bay in their continuing struggle for social justice and human rights,” the statement began. – Tbnewswatch

…Chief librarian says ‘racism exists’ at the TBPL…
What we see here are people falling all over themselves to admit they are racist. Is being a racist in Thunder Bay the new “cool thing” to be? Is declaring your business to be racist the new way to try and increase your customer base?
Who will declare themselves racist next? Maybe a church? sounds right.
This is all virtue signalling. The real racists are not going to say anything.
Update: Dec. 23, 2018
Don’t agree with Trudeau’s open door immigration policy, you are racist. Notice how the term racist is being thrown around all over the place? That and the terms fascist and Nazi.
Its a sad world we live in today. Racists everywhere…..but that cannot be. Everyone can’t be a racist. It does not make sense.
The more you use the word, the less power it wields. Calling everyone in Thunder Bay, in the TBPS and now the Thunder Bay Library as racist, makes that accusation virtually meaningless.
