Once again, the article speaks of US law but the sentiment rings true in Canada as well. Don’t speak to police. Other than maybe hello, some small talk about the weather or how the Leafs are doing, its best to keep your mouth shut. Tightly shut. Especially if the conversation moves in your direction or ..anyone’s direction actually. Police are trained in the art of social engineering. Gathering information through conversation. You have no idea if they are investigating anyone, including yourself. You have no idea or when/if what you say will come back to haunt you. Seriously.
For your own protection, its best to keep the chatter with Law Enforcement to the bare minimum.
