Maybe you can ask the Manager of Engineering why this work is acceptable. There may be a very good explanation but I suspect not.
I believe that the City of Thunder Bay advertises and awards these road contracts with zero plans. No drawings showing where everything goes. I believe it is a remove and replace philosophy that does not allow for changes in the design or correcting of existing problem areas. Its all a waste of money as far as I’m concerned if we don’t make things better than they were before.
St. Paul Street. Go have a look. It is actually pretty good work…so far. Evidently, it can be done in this city.
You end up with this. Why? Because nobody checks to make sure the road surface is consistent in its line and grade. Its all done by eye.
In fact, from what I see, nobody checks anything. Nothing. No measure twice cut once or should I say measure twice build once.
It is my belief that these road constructions are designed on the back of a cigarette package as they go. Mistakes are either left for us residents to enjoy for years to come or fixed later at extra cost. If you want to see lots, then just cross Bay Street from this project and have a look. So how does this quality of work address the Infrastructure Deficit? Short term maybe, but long term, we will be pumping millions of maintenance dollars into these areas. That is if City Admin. decides to maintain something.
Value for our tax dollars? I do not see it at all.
