Mr. J. Hamman,
City Clerk, City of Thunder Bay
I am requesting that you investigate whether Councilor Aldo Ruberto is in a direct conflict of interest. His real estate holdings ( he is co-owner of Ruberto Holdings and Property Management Company 1987) around the city and the fact that he votes on issues that affect major city developments may be a major problem. The new courthouse, the Waterrfront Development and even the future Arena/Multiplex are all projects that are advertised as efforts to revitalize the downtown cores. There are smaller projects that all affect the value of a piece of property such as the temporary location of the south core bus terminal.
Mr. Ruberto is a member of the Waterfront Development Committee. Does he own any real estate in the north downtown core? I understand he is buying property around the city on an ongoing basis. His position in City Government gives him access to a lot of information not available to the general public. Is he using his position on council for the purpose of real estate speculation?
I understand that Mr. Ruberto does own property in the vicinity of one major development, the New Courthouse. If this is true and he did not declare a conflict of interest and recuse himself from any votes by City Council, that would be very troubling and possibly criminal.
I would like you to act on this as soon as possible as the election is less than 2 weeks away. He is running for re-election. It is important to have this cleared up before October 25, 2010.
