The population of Ontario, the entire country actually, are being punished for our government’s lack of preparedness. Our government’s complete incompetence.
Our high salaried residents of Queens Park and Parliament Hill have had over18 years since the SARS pandemic to prepare for another virus. They did nothing.
Our high salaried residents of Queens Park and Parliament Hill have had a year to prepare for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. They did nothing.
Our high salaried residents of Queens Park and Parliament Hill have had over seven months to prepare for the second wave of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. They did nothing.
Everything that is being asked of the public, all sacrifices that are being asked of businesses, all of the people that have been affected by the cancellations of surgeries due to the SARS-C0V-2 virus is a result of inaction by the same people you see on television sooo concerned about saving lives….now. Not then. Only now.
Doug Ford. Christine Elliot. Dr. Theresa Tam, Patty Hajdu. Justin Trudeau. What have they done to prepare our health system for a mass increase in demand for hospital beds? Very little.
Every time you see a government talking head on television telling us that we have to get serious about this virus, remember that they are the same people who did nothing to prevent the health care system crisis that we now have. Nothing.
Why has the media not asked Ford and Elliot and Hajdu and Trudeau why they did nothing in the months leading up to this crisis?
This from the Ontario news site posted yesterday:
The Ontario government is providing up to $125 million to immediately add over 500 critical care and high intensity medicine beds to hospitals in areas with high rates of COVID-19 transmission. A portion of the funding will also be used to temporarily transition Mackenzie Health’s Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital into a systemwide resource supporting the province’s COVID-19 response when the new hospital is scheduled to open on February 7, 2021. These initiatives will help relieve pressures on nearby hospitals due to rapid increases in hospitalization and ICU occupancy rates.
Five hundred beds? $125 million? Now? Adding thousands of critical beds, permanent and temporary) is what should have been done a year ago.
Last summer, why were field hospitals not erected at every hospital site? You know, in anticipation of the virus’s second wave? Was it money?
Right now, money is not an issue when it comes to pandemic spending. There are unlimited pots of the stuff in Queens Park and Ottawa. What has changed?
The province and federal government have lost billions in taxes. They have spent even more on paying people not to work and businesses not to be open. Had they spent a fraction of that money on expanding hospital capacity, combined with mask wearing, hand washing and social distancing, we would be much better off right now.
But they did nothing. Now its our fault that the virus is spreading. Its our fault that hospitals are full. Its all our fault.
