Looks like a section of sidewalk is getting replaced. Hurrah! you might say. But…and there always seems to be a but, this sidewalk is on Algoma Street. This sidewalk that is now going to cost the taxpayers money to remove and replace is on the part of Algoma Street that was reconstructed in 2011. The quality of work was abysmal.
For some reason this section of sidewalk was not removed and replaced under the 2011 contract. I’m guessing, no money. The contract went over budget or whatever the term is now called. The contract went over estimate?
Now, almost two years later, the people who make these decisions have finally noticed that this sidewalk is/was in horrible condition. Now, I am sure that the public and traffic will be subject to additional construction noise and dust and closures.
This should have been handled back in 2011. Better Late Than Never should be The City of Thunder Bay’s motto. I like Thunder Bay – We Do Things Half-Assed. Or Thunder Bay – A City So Nice That We Build Everything Twice or Thrice.

They get their money. That is all that matters.
