It appears that 1778691 Ontario Inc. has started to try and sell its condos. After years of delay, the sales office, heavily subsidized by the Thunder Bay taxpayer I believe, is now open in the CN Train Station. Finally paying rent I presume/hope.
The question now is whether there are enough people with lots of money that will be willing to give it to an Ontario numbered company that has been in business since 2009 or so and has no construction track record. None that I am aware of anyway. Several steel piles were driven onto the site many weeks ago. That is it.
True, 1778691 Ontario Inc. is connected to the Manshield Group of Winnipeg and Manshield Group HAVE built stuff. Will they stand behind their product? Who knows? How well are they regarded in Winnipeg? Might be worth doing some research.
What I do know is that the work Manshield Construction did on Prince Arthur’s Landing development is, in my opinion, far from satisfactory. This is work that is out in the open, everyone can see it. I do not see value for money there. Quality of workmanship is definitely questionable.
I believe that 1778691 Ontario Inc. is a company that will try to maximize its profits any way it can. Can you trust 1778691 Ontario Inc.? Well just look back to all that was said since 2009. Look back at the agreement that was signed between the City and 1778691 Ontario Inc. in July 2009. See what was agreed to by both parties. See what 1778691 Ontario Inc. agreed to do and then compare that with what 1778691 Ontario Inc. actually did. Hint: They agreed to do much and delivered on little to nothing.
I believe that signed agreements mean very little to 1778691 Ontario Inc. Their dealings with the City of Thunder Bay seem to underline that fact.
Caveat emptor. Buyer beware.
