Back from a week in Toronto. I will post some photos of that trip in the future. For now, its just an update tour of the neighbourhood.
Sidewalk plows continue to pull up grass. Maybe sidewalk designs have to take snow removal into account?
I see this crosswalk button has been repaired.
If you remember, it used to look like this…
Still two shopping carts left. There used to be seven carts here.

Looks like the Wholesale Club does not miss these two carts
Its nice to see that someone is clearing a path through the snowbanks to the parking meters. I believe this work is a relatively new in our city.
More grass…
Icy rec trail along the waterfront. The private sector company that was hired to maintain the trail south of Waterfront Plaza needs to throw a little sand around a few areas. For some reason. it is not doing this. I wonder what the contract with the city says about this?
Yes, that is ice. Take it from me, falling on ice hurts…a lot.
Why don’t our high salaried residents of City Hall remove this thing? There used to be two. One located on each side of the entrance to Pier 2. One was damaged and removed, leaving this one doing…nothing actually.
Replace the missing one or remove this one.
With only one worker charged with clearing snow in the Pier 2, Waterfront Plaza, fountain/rink. restaurant, Water Garden Pavilion, Baggage Building, Pond Pavilion and points north, the clearing operation takes time.
One person maintaining the City of Thunder Bay’s four season $65 million plus premier tourist destination over the winter? That’s Thunder Bay for you.
Lots of people using the fountain/rink. Even though it was cold.
These are the public art things on Pier 2. I wonder why the view though the legs was not taken into account when deciding on their locations?
Oh well….
Another year has gone by and still no hotel at Prince Arthur’s Landing. July 2017 will be the eighth anniversary of the signing of the agreement between the developer and the City of Thunder Bay re: Prince Arthur’s Landing.
Eight years and still no hotel…
nothing happening with the train station
nothing happening with the leased lot land 3
Some obstacles for pedestrians still exist
Ahhh….not in Prince Arthur’s Landing for a change
Safeway carts
Notice just how far the crosswalk button is from the actual crossing.
Same here (on the right)
The sump water icing situation update…
You can still see the ice hump on the sidewalk. The temperatures allow for the use of salt to help remove that hump…if someone wanted to do that

If you compare the before and after, it looks like there is more ice now than a week ago.
Hopefully, the water flow has been stopped..but who knows?
Another example of a crosswalk button that is nowhere near the actual crosswalk.
Look at the button across Court Street. Not even close to the crosswalk
Same here
Bus stop…cleared of snow then grader came along and pushed more onto it. Great.
Squirrel?
Lights up at Wilson Street Park rink..
No skate-able ice yet.
Meter now covered. Could be hit by puck?
Pump house….that is what is in here
Hard to believe this is December 30
Sigh..
Hmmm…
Tracks of truck..City of Thunder Bay worker? Tim Hortons cup in immediate vicinity of these tracks? Hmmmmm….
Love the windrow of snow. How much snow does the City of Thunder Bay think it can squeeze into that small space between the street and sidewalk?
Another example of a crosswalk button not next to crosswalk. This needs to be addressed.
