Thunder Bay – Municipal Industrial Complex 2

As I posted earlier,

the people that benefit from the huge cost of running this city, vote.

The staff, families, relatives and friends of the  City of Thunder Bay, Tbaytel, Thunder Bay Hydro and all the consultants, contractors and suppliers won’t vote for anyone who wants to rein in spending. Their livelihoods depend on that spending. Its the Municipal Industrial Complex. Every employee hired by the city makes the problem worse.

Council is afraid of city employees.  Afraid of city administration. Afraid of city managers. Afraid of unions.

The infamous Military Industrial Complex in the US is famous for

The military–industrial complex, or military–industrial–congressional complex,[1] comprises the policy and monetary relationships which exist between legislators, national armed forces, and the arms industry that supports them. These relationships include political contributions, political approval for military spending, lobbying to support bureaucracies, and oversight of the industry. It is a type of iron triangle – Wikipedia

In Thunder Bay, City Administration services have become such a large part of our lives, that cutting services, any services will be immediately felt by some group of people.  All these services have lobbyists…people who believe that the service that use is the most important service in the universe.

The City of Thunder Bay Administration is not unlike an  inoperable cancer. It has spread throughout the city and any service cannot be removed without doing some harm to the host. As  it grows and spreads, it sucks more and more money out of the City of Thunder Bay’s budget.

Also, the Municipal Industrial Complex directly or indirectly supports a very large percentage of the population. There is no way that number of voters will ever allow City Council to to cut services and jobs.

Remember, City Councilors are only interested in getting reelected. They do not give a damn about the city. Its all about getting reelected.
