Yesterday, the Waterfront Development Office had their open house down at the waterfront. As I said before, there was nothing there to see but some people did go and have a look.
I was wondering how the Chronicle Journal was going to cover this event. I knew that they were going to produce an article raving about how great the place was going to look when completed. Lots of Oooos and Ahhhhhs. As I said earlier, the problem is that, right NOW, there is nothing there to see. How do you write a rave review of something that doesn’t exist? As George Michael said, I Gotta Have Faith, Faith, Faith.
Well, the article appeared on the front page of Saturday’s Chronicle Journal. A real fluff piece. The newspaper’s overlord, Darth Lynn will be pleased. Is it will be enough to stem the growing criticism emanating from an angry electorate that is tired of rising taxes?
The photos. Now this is funny. The article had two accompanying photos. One of the photos shows a few people standing around. The other photo is that of Katherine Dugmore, Waterfront Development Manager, pointing to a display. Yes, the best photo the Chronicle Journal could produce exalting the virtues of the $50M Waterfront Development was a photo of Katherine Dugmore pointing at a picture.
An open house the Waterfront Development can be proud of. Long on “open”, short on “house”. A newspaper article that has Pulitzer written all over it. I think the day went well.
